2011 Maui Cycling Camps

Phew, must have been a busy December if I couldn’t blog till the middle of January!

Lindsey and I had a blast working the 2nd Annual Maui Cycling Camp with Ryder Hesjedal and the legendary Donnie Arnoult of Go Cycling Maui. The campers enjoyed an afternoon massage after every ride, and we even got some Four Seasons pool time!

Upcountry Fitness is hosting the 2nd Annual Guns in the Sun Strongman/woman contest TODAY at the all-new Aloha Aina Center at Haiku.

10am: Check-in for all events

Maui Makani Begins!

Here we are at the American Windsurfing Tour National Championships at legendary Hookipa Beach Park!

After a beautiful opening ceremony and blessing yesterday, sailers were put on hold until this morning for conditions to develop. Now we have wind and waves and 90 windsurfers ready to showcase their skills. Deep Relief is sponsoring the event and providing athletic training services for the athletes as well as treatments for spectators and visitors. Come on down for fun food, excitement, and Maui’s first wave event in 5 years!

Contest starts at 11:30 with the Amateur Men. Look for Deep Relief Athletes Neil Turpin and Kevin Pritchard to showcase as the weekend goes on!

What an athlete!

With all the water, snow, and land athletes we work with at Deep Relief, I thought I had seen it all. But an unfortunate incident involving me, my kite, and a tree introduced me to the AIR athletes of Maui– Palm Tree Trimmers! Dave came over on a Sunday morning, shimmied 50 feet up an Ironwood tree on the beach, and rescued my kite! What a feat of athleticism! The kite was pretty beat up at that point but much better on the ground than in the air. And I was very impressed.

our newest ART-Certified Deep Relief Therapist, Lindsey Dennis. Lindsey is an experienced massage therapist and a Certified Personal Trainer at Upcountry Fitness. She is using her new ART Spine skills combined with a thorough knowledge of the human body to provide Deep Relief to her clients as well as mine while I am away.

TriCan Training Camp in Victoria, BC

Just finishing up a week with the Canadian National Triathlon team at their training base in Victoria, Canada as they prepare for the World Championships in Beijing. I’ve been busy getting after injuries, post-training massage, and meeting lots of staff and athletes that I haven’t worked with before. But, been lots of time for my own training camp: mountain biking, swimming in the cold ocean and warm lakes, and checking out the strength facility. I even did a pool workout with the team this morning, if I wear fins I can almost keep up! Looking forward to heading back to Maui tomorrow and perhaps catching the last of the South Swell….?
