Maui Stage Race

Facebook

Ahh, Kula in springtime.  Nothing like an early morning bike race to get everyone up and enjoying the sunshine and cool breezes.  Matt and I headed up at 8am this morning to help out with post-race massage and treatments, and just caught the finish of the last stage in this 3-part race.  We had some great athletes from Maui, Oahu, Big Island, Napa, and even Alaska, and lots of Maui volunteers making it happen!

Everyone enjoyed the treatments, pizza, beer and most of all the Happy Hula Ice Cream sandwiches made by Deep Relief Athlete Rebecca Woodburn.  Homemade ice cream and cookies, chocolate, vanilla, coconut macaroons, macadamia nut wafers, and double choco cookies….all local ingredients and gluten-free to boot.  I’m in love.

Check out race results at the Maui Stage Race website and keep an eye out for Deep Relief Therapists at more events this summer!

Deep Relief and Upcountry Fitness are honored to be supporting sponsors of the  First Annual “Paddle Imua” fundraiser on Saturday, May 5.   SUPOC1OC2SS and Paddleboard paddlers will join together on the famed “Maliko Run” to celebrate the lives of children with special needs.

All entry fees will directly benefit

Proceeds of Paddle Imua will benefit Imua Family Services’ Camp Imua, an annual program that takes place in June at Camp Maluhia in the West Maui Mountains. For one week, 50 special needs campers and more than 200 volunteers come together for crafts, games, swimming, helicopter rides and general fun, while making new friends and catching up with old. Camp Imua 2012 is scheduled for June 8-15.

I’ve volunteered at Camp Imua with the Maui School of Therapeutic Massage to work on some of the kids and volunteers, and can attest to the amazing affect camp has on Maui’s most amazing, talented, and heroic group of kids and volunteers.  When Deep Relief was asked to be involved, I couldn’t have been more excited.

Registration and check-in will begin at 10:00 a.m., and the race starts at 1 p.m. While the paddlers are out on the water, there will be outrigger canoe rides for the special needs kamali’i of Camp Imua, between 1 and 2 p.m., food, music and live entertainment beginning at 3 p.m., and an awards presentation at 4:30 p.m.

Race entry fees go straight to the kids at Camp Imua, and includes dinner, entertainment, Bluesmiths jersey, race t-shirt and FREE post-race MASSAGE by Deep Relief.  We’ll be there at the finish (along with the Maui Brewing Company) to take good care of you.  Even if you don’t race, come down to the Canoe Club for dinner, drinks, and family fun.  Our own Izaak Tyrrell will be MCing the race!

Get your registration forms here and don’t forget that every penny goes straight to the kids at Camp Imua.
